Peru FAQ
What is a Lima Food Tour?

A Lima Food Tour is an immersive, guided culinary journey through the city that made Peru a global food capital. You’ll start at Mercado N°1 de Surquillo, one of Lima’s most vibrant local markets, where Peru’s biodiversity and everyday ingredients come to life. From there, the experience moves into Miraflores and finishes near Parque Kennedy, connecting what you taste to the neighborhoods and stories behind it. Along the way, your guide shares the migrations, traditions, and cultural influences that shaped classics like ceviche and criollo flavors, plus the modern creativity of Nikkei and Amazonian fusion. It’s not just a tasting tour, it’s a masterclass in how Peru became world-famous for food.

What kinds of food and drinks will I try?

You’ll taste a curated range of Peruvian flavors, from market-sourced bites and coastal classics like ceviche to contemporary favorites influenced by Nikkei and Amazonian cuisine. Drinks are included as well, and may feature Peru’s iconic pisco alongside non-alcoholic options. The exact tastings can vary depending on seasonality and availability, especially at the market, but the goal is always the same: a generous, diverse journey that tells Peru’s food story through what’s on your plate.

Is the tour suitable for vegetarians or people with dietary restrictions?

We can usually accommodate vegetarian, gluten-free, and lactose-intolerant diets with advance notice. Please let us know your dietary needs at least 24 hours before the tour so we can plan the best possible alternatives. As with many Peruvian tasting experiences, a fully vegan version can be difficult to match in the same format, but we’ll always do our best to guide you to the right fit.

What is included in the tour price?

Your tour includes all tastings (10+ across the experience), drinks, and a knowledgeable local guide. Everything is organized for you, so you can focus on enjoying Lima’s flavors, learning the stories behind them, and moving through the neighborhoods without worrying about extra planning.

What happens if it rains?

The tour runs rain or shine. We choose stops with indoor moments along the route, and we recommend bringing a light jacket or umbrella just in case. If weather is unusually severe, we may adjust the flow slightly to keep the experience comfortable while keeping the same core tastings and story.

How much walking is involved?

There is moderate walking between stops, especially as we transition from Surquillo into Miraflores. The distances are manageable, and the walk is part of the experience, you’ll see the contrast between neighborhoods and how Lima’s food culture fits into everyday city life.

How much food is there?

Plenty. This tour is designed to be a full tasting experience with 10+ tastings, and most guests finish happily full. We recommend arriving hungry and keeping breakfast or lunch light beforehand.

Can I join if I’m traveling alone?

Yes. Solo travelers are very welcome. The tour is a relaxed, social way to experience Lima, and it’s common to meet other travelers while sharing tastings and stories along the route.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, we recommend booking ahead to secure your spot, especially on weekends and during high travel periods. Group sizes are limited and departures can fill up, so reserving in advance is the best way to guarantee availability.
